OUR EDITIONS

STORIES, NOT SEASONS

We do not believe every new chapter needs to follow a fashion calendar.

At Éllanno, our collections are conceived as editions - each shaped by a distinct origin, an extraordinary fibre, and the communities whose knowledge gives it meaning.

Every edition is an exploration. Of landscapes. Of materials. Of traditions. Of a world that deserves to be understood beyond its surface.

Edition 1

THE LISTENING THREAD

Born of the Andes.

High above the ordinary, where the mountains meet the open sky, alpacas have adapted to a landscape of contrasts. At the heart of Edition I is baby alpaca, a fibre distinguished not by the animal's age, but by its remarkable fineness.  A beginning rooted in nature, shaped by intention.

A name that speaks of fineness, not age.

Despite its name, baby alpaca does not necessarily come from a young animal. The term refers to a particularly fine grade of alpaca fibre, selected for its delicate handle and exceptional softness. Fine to the touch yet naturally resilient, baby alpaca brings together qualities that are rarely found in such harmony.

Remarkably soft

Fine fibres create a smooth, comforting feel against the skin.

Naturally warm

Its structure helps retain warmth without excessive bulk.

Light to wear

Comfort and insulation come together in an easy, wearable form.

Lanolin-free

Unlike sheep's wool, alpaca fibre naturally contains little to no lanolin.

Every fibre deserves attention. Nature creates the fibre. Human understanding gives it purpose. Before alpaca fibre becomes yarn, it passes through a process of sorting and grading. Fineness, length, colour and consistency are considered to determine how each fibre can best be used. At Éllanno, we see material selection as the beginning of thoughtful making. Because the quality of a garment is shaped long before its first stitch.

FIBRE

Understanding the natural characteristics of the fleece.

Every alpaca fleece has its own characteristics. Fineness, fibre length and texture influence how it feels and what it can become. Understanding these differences helps us work with the material thoughtfully, allowing its natural qualities to guide the finished piece.

SELECTION

Considering fineness, consistency and suitability.

Selection considers both softness and purpose. Fibres are chosen for their suitability to the intended garment, its structure and how it should feel against the skin. Baby alpaca refers to a fine grade of alpaca fibre, rather than the age of the animal—a distinction that places the focus on the material’s fineness.

TRANSFORMATION

Preparing the material for its journey into yarn and fabric.

From loose alpaca fleece to finished fabric, each stage develops the material while preserving its character. Cleaning removes dirt and unwanted matter. Carding separates and arranges the fibres, preparing them to be drawn together and spun into yarn. The yarn is then knitted or woven into fabric. Its thickness, twist and construction help determine the finished material’s texture, weight and drape. Finishing further refines its feel, bringing the softness and warmth of alpaca into a form made to be worn and cared for over time.

A relationship rooted in respect.

Working with natural fibres means recognising that every material has an origin beyond the garment. For Éllanno, respect begins with understanding this relationship—between the animal, the land, the people and the material. It is a perspective that encourages us to ask more thoughtful questions about how clothing is made and what it leaves behind.

The beauty of keeping things.

A well-loved garment becomes part of our everyday rituals. The coat we reach for on a quiet morning. The knit that travels with us. The scarf that feels increasingly familiar. Over time, these pieces gather meaning through the moments in which they are worn. We believe good clothing deserves that kind of relationship. One shaped by thoughtful material choices, careful use and the simple act of keeping something for longer.

Not everything meaningful needs to be new. Made to be worn. Worth caring for.
